چکیده

Abstract The Walnut Twig Beetle (WTB), Pityophthorus juglandis Blackman, is a small bark beetle native to Mexico and Southwestern USA recorded for the first time in Europe (NE Italy) 2013. WTB attacks walnut ( Juglans spp.) wingnut trees Pterocarya vector of Geosmithia morbida Kolarík et al., pathogen causing thousand cankers disease (TCD). TCD represent serious threat orchards Europe. Spatiotemporal data WTB-TCD infestations from an 8-year-long (2013–2020) monitoring conducted 106 NE Italy were used develop model order analyze: (i) effective dispersal capacity WTB, (ii) factors affecting (iii) colonization risk healthy orchards. We registered mean annual 9.4 km, with peaks about 40 km. Pest affected by distance suitable hosts nearest infested site, number surroundings (both healthy), orchard size species orchard. Using model, it was also possible calculate specific according its characteristics showing, instance, that medium-size (5,000 trees) black located at 25 km has infestation 50% probability.

Phylogeography of the Walnut Twig Beetle, Pityophthorus juglandis, the Vector of Thousand Cankers Disease in North American Walnut Trees

Thousand cankers disease (TCD) of walnut trees (Juglans spp.) results from aggressive feeding in the phloem by the walnut twig beetle (WTB), Pityophthorus juglandis, accompanied by inoculation of its galleries with a pathogenic fungus, Geosmithia morbida. In 1960, WTB was only known from four U.S. counties (in Arizona, California, and New Mexico), but the species has now (2014) invaded over 115...

Insecticide Dip Treatments to Prevent Walnut Twig Beetle Colonization of Black Walnut Logs

The health, sustainability, and commercial viability of eastern black walnut (Juglans nigra) are currently under threat from thousand cankers disease. The disease is caused by an invasive bark beetle species, the walnut twig beetle (Pityophthorus juglandis), and its associated fungal pathogen (Geosmithia morbida). Range expansion of the beetle and pathogen has likely been facilitated by transpo...
